Bord na Móna is Ireland's leading environmentally responsible integrated utility service provider encompassing electricity, heating, resource recovery, water, growing media and related services. Bord na Móna has embarked upon a strategy of diversification beyond its traditional peat-based businesses to a new more sustainable business with a strong focus on renewable energy. As part of this diversification it intends to develop a portfolio of electricity generating plants, including wind farms, flexible gas fired generation and peaking units

The new SwiftPac units will be the power behind a circa 110MW peaking plant being installed at the company’s existing 128MW Hybrid peat and biomass Plant at Edenderry.

Progress on construction of the Peaking Plant "Cushaling Power Ltd" is going according to schedule. In December four driver modules and two generators were delivered to site and set on foundation . The foundation base for the Dematerialized water tank has been completed and tank construction is ongoing, . Excavation for fuel oil storage tanks and unloading area has been completed. The underground ducting for 110kv cable from transformer to switchyard is in place and work in the Eirgrid switchyard is at an advanced stage.

As Ireland installs more and more wind energy facilities, there is an increased need for fast starting gas turbine peaking plants. The units being installed can start and be at full power on the grid in less than ten minutes and are ideally suited for this application to support wind generation.

Following commissioning during the summer, the scheduled commercial operation date is October 1st 2010
