Final shareholder approval has now been received in relation to the project to build a c.110MW OCGT Peaking Plant on the Edenderry site. Work will now progress quickly towards finalisation of the main supplier contract details to enable construction to commence in Q3 2009. The plant will be a flexible generator with the primary role of supporting the growing volume of intermittent wind generation capacity on the grid system including the upcoming Bord na Mona wind projects planned between now and 2015.

It is envisaged that construction will be completed over a 15 month period employing between 50 and 60 people at peak construction. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for Q4 2010 in time for the 2010/2011 winter peak demand period. When added to the existing 120MW peat and biomass co-fuelled base load plant, the capacity at the Edenderry site will almost double to c. 230MW on completion of the project.
